About this speaker

Jess graduated from Northeastern in 2010 with a degree in Biology. After doing some traveling and deciding that graduate school, or even a career in Biology wasn’t for her, she accepted a job in sales and marketing for a start-up activewear company in Boston. Working alongside the founder for 10 months, Jess got an inside view into Entrepreneurship and saw what was happening in the boutique fitness marketplace. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she decided to quit her full time job, go back to waiting tables to cover the bills - and spent her days writing a business plan for an indoor cycling studio called The Handle Bar. One year later Jess secured angel investors, and 6 months after, in June 2013.. she opened the first Handle Bar studio in South Boston.

Now 11 years into The Handle Bar history, Jess has navigated the business through a pandemic, expanded and contracted the studio footprint, merged with a competitor, and successfully converted two CYCLE locations to heated FLOW and SCULPT studios. Now under one HB membership, our clients enjoy 5 distinct class types across 7 unique locations throughout Boston and Cambridge.

Jess’ expertise is in strategic planning, lease negotiations, brand development, event planning, and partnerships. Jess has a proven ability to drive sales growth, implement innovative programs, and lead successful mergers.

With The Handle Bar in a healthy place post-pandemic, Jess is eager to give back to the Startup community via mentorship, coaching, and engaging in speaking opportunities like Startup Boston!
